Description
Cotton plants produce creamy-white flowers that soon turn deep pink before dropping, leaving small green seed pods known as cotton "bolls." Cotton is native to most subtropical countries and was already used for its medicinal and cosmetic properties by the ancient Chinese and Hindus. The literature claims that cotton was cultivated in China as early as 3000 BC. It is primarily a textile plant grown for the fibers it produces. Cotton fibers are used for a wide range of purposes: fabrics, blankets, batting, tire covers, etc. d. Cotton by-products such as lint (which covers the seeds of some species) are also used to make varnishes, explosives, leather substitutes, etc. d., and the husk is used for the production of fuel, paper pulp, coal, etc. d. The symbol of softness, innocence, purity, nobility, cotton, vegetable fiber is associated with a feeling of comfort, coolness, health and smoothness.
