Crodarom® Violet Rice

Oryza sativa belongs to the Poaceae (true grass) family and is native to tropical and subtropical South Asia. Purple rice may have disappeared because Western countries preferred Thai rice, which is easier to grow. It has been reintroduced by fair trade cooperatives in Thailand and Laos. In traditional Chinese medicine, edible plants are an integral part of the pharmacopoeia. In Thailand, this staple cereal is not only consumed, it is sincerely revered during ceremonies. Rice is a plant rich in amino acids, vitamins (especially type B), sugars and minerals. The Khao Gram variety (purple rice) also contains anthocyanins, which give the purple color to the bran and have antioxidant properties. With its astringent and soothing properties, rice is used to treat many skin conditions.
